Hereford United remain at the foot of the League One table despite bringing Walsall's three-match winning run shuddering to a halt in an Edgar Street stalemate.

The Bulls had rather the better of such goal-scoring opportunities as they were in a drab encounter.

The first half lacked sparkle with neither side producing much in the way of chances.

Darren Randolph produced a low save from Alex Nicholls' ninth-minute drive but the best of the action came in the last five minutes.

Michael Ricketts wasted a good opening four minutes before the interval, turning neatly after receiving Richard Taundry's pass but shooting across goal and wide.

But Hereford's Bradley Hudson-Odoi was even more culpable a minute later, stealing in to meet a cross from Kris Taylor but failing to make goalkeeper Clayton Ince make a save with his poorly directed header.

Ince was called into action in first-half stoppage time, however, diving to grasp a low Hudson-Odoi effort.

Dwayne Mattis, Jabo Ibehre and Stephen Roberts all went close as Walsall enjoyed a good spell at the start of the second period.

But Hereford went even closer to opening the scoring in the 66th minute when Andy Williams dived to meet a cross from former Saddler, Taylor, only to see the ball flash inches past the upright.

Hereford were out of luck again four minutes later when Taylor was again at the heart of the action.

The midfielder's corner was completely missed by Ince and the ball was heading towards the net off Bruno N'Gotty before Paul Boertien's boot saved the day for the visitors.

With the Bulls continuing to have rather the better of the second-half action, the home side did finally get the ball in the net four minutes from the end, only for Hudson-Odoi's effort to be ruled out for pushing.
