A point apiece kept two mini-sequences rolling at opposite ends of the League Two table.

Walsall stayed top despite failing to win for the third game in a row while a share of the spoils made it three unbeaten games for a Boston side still battling to pull clear of the drop zone.

There was plenty of life to the early exchanges and Boston went close in the third minute when Dany N'Guessan caught Scott Dann dithering in defence but failed to capitalise when given a run on goal, as Anthony Gerrard covered well to foil the home striker.

Walsall answered with a couple of useful attacks that yielded off target finishes for Chris Westwood and Tommy Wright.

The 20th minute brought another chance for the visitors but Wright again shot too high from the edge of the box following a cross from the right by Tony Bedeau.

Boston pressed again on 26 minutes but Francis Green should have done better than fire wide after a good move involving Lee Canoville, Anthony Elding and N'Guessan.

The bulk of the first half however tended to revolve around the defences with both showing plenty of willingness to ensure danger never materialised in their respective six-yard zones, with the emphasis very much on safety first tackles.

Walsall went close two minutes after the interval when, from a Mark Wright corner Gerrard rose well but his header flashed a yard too high.

At the other end Boston missed a glaring chance in the 54th minute when an unmarked N'Guessan somehow headed wide from a David Rowson cross. However, he made amends 60 seconds later. He chased a clearance by Andy Marriott and raced on to side-foot past Clayton Ince from 15 yards to give Boston the lead.

Walsall then lost the services of Gerrard who was stretchered off after a clash of heads with N'Guessan.

Boston had to rely on keeper Marriott for preserving their lead in the 68th minute when he produced a spectacular one-handed diving save to thwart Tommy Wright's 12-yard snapshot.

The Walsall frontman kept on working and clawed his team level in the 72nd minute when rising to net a header from Mark Wright's left-wing corner.
