Zidanes Port Vale preview

Last updated : 30 September 2005 By Andy Van Hagen
Walsall make the short journey to Port vale looking to build upon their one win and one draw from their last two games.  Both of which were against top 6 opposition. This is a significant up turn in fortunes from their dismal performances against Swansea and Chesterfield. Port Vale enter the game on the back of three straight losses after a good start to the season, so they will be looking to bounce back. Port Vale have only lost 1 home game this season and have only conceeded 3 goals on home soil. It has been their away form that has been letting them down.

Walsall Team News

Walsall's injury list is growing rapidly. Paul Merson, Ian Roper, D Taylor, Darren Wrack, Andy Oakes, and Steve Staunton are all out injured. Craig Pead also will miss out through suspension.

Gillett is expected to make his debut after his loan move from Southampton. Mark Wright is expected to line up at right back. Michael Husbands may retain his place in the team but he could be deployed in either attack or on the right wing. Michael Standing will be pressing for a recall to the squad but Kris Taylor may miss out after apparently falling out with Merson prior to Tuesdays game against Brentford. Ozzie and smith are certainties to play in the centre of the park.

Port Vale Team News

Chris Cornes has signed for another month from Wolves on loan. This will boost them as he has been in great goal scoring form. Nathan Lowndes is out with a knee injury while ex-Saddler Tony Dinning is out with a one match suspension. Apart from this Vale have a full strength squad to choose from

Ex-Saddlers In the Vale Squad

Port Vale have two ex-Saddlers in the ranks. Tony Dinning and Danny Sonner. Danny Sonner was one of Colin Lees first signings but never reached his full potential with us before leaving for Peterbrough. Tony Dinning joined on loan the season we got relegated, from Bristol City but never really made an impression.

Famous Fans - Port Vale

Robbie Williams is the most famous Port Vale fan. He never misses an opportunity to talk about his beloved club. Even moving to America has not weakend his affections for the Vale and he has even turned out for them in numerous friendly games. Expect to hear his new single in the pre-match music as they love him as much as he loves them.

What the Vale sing

In the town where i was born
There was a team
We go to see
And we had ten pints of ale
Before we went to see the Vale
We all piss in a red and white hat
A red and white hat
A red and white hat

Prediction

Close game but Walsall to sneak a 1-0 thanks to a first goal from the lively Husbands.
