Zidane's Forest round up

Walsall last night beat pre season title favourites Nottingham Forest 3-2.  In the first half Walsall offered little and were restricted purely to a 1st minute shot by Simon Osborn, as the only shot that threatened the visitors goal.  The 4-5-1 formation that has served us so well of late seemed to be the problem as against better opposition such as Forest it enabled them to keep lone man Matty Fryatt under control.  However Matty was trying and working very hard but his possesion was restricted mainly to the flanks.

Forest took the lead from kris Commons and no-one could argue we really deserved to go in level.  Its simple without shots, you wont get goals.

The second half however saw Merson bring on mark Wright for the ineffective Standing.  Jorge pushed up to the second striker in a 4-4-2.  The change grought instant rewards with Wright thumping in a goal from just outside the area.  Minutes later Waslall hit Forest again with the old 1-2 with Chris Westwood seeing the ball into the net from a tight angle after a corner had been pushed away by Pederson.  Shortly after it was 3! Pederson leading in with his feet to challange Jorge who was one on one.  The keeper saw red and Matty Fryatt slotted the penalty away despite a long wait for treatment to Jorge.

Forest were unable to control Mark Wright and that cost them dear.  A late goal from David Frillo ensured a nervous finish with 5 mins of injury time on the board but the late pressure came to nothing.

An Amazing second half and great entertainment.  One note worth considering, Bennett played instead of Anthony Gerrard and put in a MOTM performance! Competition for places is really bring the best out of our centre backs.  Westwood looked class, Fox is showing great potential and Simon Osborn is continuing his class form of last season into this.
