Zidane's Forest Preview

Last updated : 09 August 2005 By Andy Van Hagen
Next up this season is the eagerly anticipated home fixture against Notts Forest. Their last visit ended in a 4-1 Walsall win. Last season they were relegated and they saw a change of manager with Gary Megson now at the helm, in Megson they argueably have the best manager in this division. I personally do not think Forest are the clear favourites for this league that all the bookies think. But expect any megson team to fight and be well organised.

Latest Forest News

Forest started the season with a fine 2-1 win over Huddlesfield. Goals from Scott Dobie and David Johnson provided Forest with a winning start to their league one campain. Kris Commons was rewarded for his key role in the win by gaining a place in league ones team of the week.

Ex-Saddlers in the Forest squad

Gino Padula joined Walsall after a short spell at Bristol Rovers in 2000.  He was probably one of the most consistant left backs we have ever seen.  After our relegation Padula decided to leave us on a Bosman and join division rivals Wigan, he later left Wigan to join QPR where he stayed for 3 years.  Last season he started 31 games for QPR in the left back position but at the end of the season opted to join Notts Forest.  At this level he is another player that should put in consistant performances week in week out.

Frank Barlow was on the backroom staff at Bescot as recent as last season.  His stay was short and on a non-contract basis, so when Megson made a call to offer him the Assistant manager position, he accepted straight away.  No one can blame him for this as he lives in Chesterfield and saves on his daily commute.  However what was not amicable was the timing he chose to depart.  The night of the season low of a 5-0 away day thumping at Colchester.

Forest Danger Men

Forest's strikeforce is arguably the most feared in league one.  David Johnson and Scott Dobie are strikers who have played the majority of their football at the higher end of the football spectrum.  David Johnson was a huge success for Ipswich and was the main firepower behind their rise to Uefa Cup football.  He moved from there to Forest where he scored 29 times in all competitions in the 2002-3 season, which was enoughto ensure entry to the championship play-offs.  He was transfer listed however at the end of last season although the player has a desire to stay.  Scott Dobie was plucked from Carlisle United by Gary Megson during his time at West Brom.  He was sold on to Millwall for £525,000 last season but when Megson left the Baggies and took over Forest he made Dobie one of his first signings.  He has never scored more than 10 in a season but this could be the year.
