Zidane's Brentford Preview

Last updated : 27 September 2005 By Andy Van Hagen
Walsall take on Brentford tonight at Bescot. Martin Allen has done a superb job with Brentford on a shoe string budget and by starting the campain amongst the pre-season favourites, this is credit to the manager. After the first ten games, results back up the pre season favourites tag so tonight we know a tough task lies ahead of us.

Walsall Team News

Walsall have no new injury worries with only long trerm absentees Daryl Taylor and Darren Wrack out injured. We are likely to shuffle the pack around as we usually do so your guess is as good as mine regarding formations and players used. Julian Bennett is back from suspension so may come into contension, however Craig Pead has a one match ban.  Gerrard could move across to accomodate Bennett or Mark Wright could drop into defence. If we play 4-4-2 Smith will play and i think Merson will retain himself in midfield. We might see more of Michael Husbands tonight with it being the 2nd game in 4 days and Jorge struggling with an ankle injury. I think his pace is an asset we have to accomodate, in this league pace is an asset that will win you games.

Brentford Team News

Brentford are looking to bounce back after a home defeat to Bristlo City at the weekend so expect changes to be made. One certain change will be the inclusion of Andy Framton who will line up in defence after missing the defeat to Bristol City. Paul Brooker came off the bench against Bristol City to score so he may of put himself in contension to start.

One player of note in the Brentford squad is DJ Campbell who was the star of Yeadings FA cup run last season. Yeading of course knocked out Slough in the second round and then went on to play Newcastle. He has been on the bench for Brentford so far but he is pushing for a start and may be given a chance tonight.

Prediction

Walsall always seem to play better against the better teams and worse against lesser teams! so with Brentford high flying i expect us to put in a top performance. Its reminding me a little of the Luton game last seasson with it being a September evenening game against a front runner. We were 2-0 victors of course last season in that fixture and i think a 2-0 or 2-1 Walsall win tonight may be the result. Im putting my bets on Fryatt to score (From open play) and Husbands to get his first goal.
