Wrexham manager reflects on defeat

After seeing Wrexham's good form come to a halt at top of the table Walsall, manager Brian Carey shared his thoughts with his club's official website www.wrexhamafc.co.uk:

"Given the fixture next week, it was probably predicable that it would go down to the wire.

"That's fate I suppose, but we will have a good week's training and see if we can wrap things up next Saturday instead.

"We have done great over the last few weeks and the lads are a little disappointed that we haven't managed to do today what we had aimed for.

"They can take heart from their performance though. We have been up beat all along and I'm not going to change at this stage.

"We had enough chances ourselves, especially in the first half. We got into some good positions and possibly could have made more of them.

"Overall though they have been terrific, they worked their socks off today, as they have in recent weeks.

"I have to pay tribute to the travelling supporters, who once again today turned up in large numbers and have really got behind us. It is them that have lifted us to where we are at the moment.

"We were dead and buried after the home defeat to Notts County, but they lifted us that day and they are reason we have just won three games. Now I'm hoping that they we will push us on for one final game.

"I would ask anyone with a feeling for the club to come along next week against Boston - you can be our 12th man and if we get that level of support we have enjoyed in recent games, then we will be okay.

"Someone has just asked me if it will be the biggest game in the club's history and I think it probably is. This club has enjoyed many special days over the years, but with one match to retain our League status, then I certainly wouldn't disagree.

"We now have to be big enough and positive enough to go out next week, win it and show people we are good enough to stay up.

"At least it is still in our own hands, there are two teams below us and I'm sure there is still plenty of football to be played over the final 90 minutes of this season."
