Wrexham in rush to beat deadline

Wrexham are approaching the deadline of June 3rd to find a buyer for the League Two club. Failure to do so and the club will run the risk of being expelled from the Football League. The League can expell clubs if they have been in administration for more than 18 months - with that deadline fast approaching, Wrexham are in danger.

There is a prosective buyer lined up - Neville Dickins (a life long Wrexham fan and millionaire car dealer). At the start of the month the consortium headed by Dickens, exchanged contracts with administrators Begbies Traynor. Two weeks later the club remain in administration.

The stumbling block is that the sale must be approved by creditors and shareholders of the club while the Football League must also give their blessing to the takeover. There shouldn't be a problem with the Football League but former owner Alex Hamilton is one of the creditors and there is a possibility that he could resort to legal action to block the sale. Recently Hamilton lost a Court of Appeal decision to retain ownership of the club's Racecourse Ground.

Wrexham currently have fourteen players out-of-contract and manager Denis Smith is unable to start negotiations until the ownership is resolved. At present time they only have four contracted first team players for next season.
