Wracks injury caused by footwear?

After seeing the incident with Darren Wrack on the tele i said straight away that i bet he was wearing the Bladed 'stud' boots.  These have been in the press alot of late with a list of players all suffering horrific injuries as a result of wearing the bladed boots rather than the normal studed ones.  The challenge on Wrack wasnt a serious one or a dangerous one but this highlights the need to research other causes for the injury other than the contact.

These bladed boots give such a good grip to the ground that there is no give and this is what causes the breaks as the pressure is appled on to the ankles and shins as a result.

Today Watchdog (BBC 1) did a special feature on these boots and used our Darren Wrack as an example.  Manchester United have banned their players from using these boots and Walsall added that they have now banned their players from wearing them too.

It seems like maybe Darrens injury was an acciedent that could have been avoided but precautions have been taken by the club to make sure a similar injury does not happen again..

These boots cost in excess of £140 and are suitable for firm or soft ground but the right boot needs to be worn for the two different grades of surface.

Watchdog approached the FA, FIFA and all the boot manufacturers. They say there's no firm evidence to suggest blades cause any more injuries than traditional studs.  Watchdog are conducting an investigation which can be viewed on the BBC's web pages.
