Danny Wilson praised the way his side hit back after falling a goal behind early on against league-leaders Walsall.
Pools trailed at half time but three goals sealed a crucial win and cut Walsall's lead at the top to just three points in a definative six-pointer.
Wilson told his club's website www.hartlepoolunited.co.uk "I don't think there was much between the two sides and they both wanted to get the ball down and pass it.
I thought we played some excellent football, we played at a good tempo and they did everything that I wanted them to do.
Their goal was a bit sloppy from us which is unusual in recent months but the way we came back against such a good side showed the character we have.
This result sets us up well for the next three or four games now."
