Walsall striker insists 'I never wanted to leave'

Prior to today's goal-less draw with Port Vale, Walsall striker Martin Butler told the local press that his strongly-rumoured summer departure was never an option.

Butler has reacted angrily to the speculation that he wanted to follow the key duo of Chris Westwood and Dean Keates out of the door to Peterborough United, and he has insisted that he never asked for a move.

The 32-year old striker was the subject of a failed bid from the League Two big spenders on transfer deadline day, but he has restated his desire to stay and do well for Walsall.
