Walsall pay agent fees!

Last updated : 15 February 2008 By Andy Van Hagen
In previous years when the Football League's report on agent fees has been released Walsall have always been amongst the teams who have not paid a penny to the agents.

When this years report was released on Thursday, Walsall were in the unusual position of being included in the list clubs happy to send cash to the agents.

For the period July 1st 2007 - December 31st 2007 Walsall paid out a total of £19,525 to agents. In total League One clubs spent a total of £1,039,484, we were ranked 16th higest spenders in this area. The table was of course topped by Leeds United who parted with £173,000, closely followed by Luton Town with £157,750 - a great advert for spending in this way!!

Three League One Clubs decided not to pay agents. These were Crewe, Hartlepool and Huddersfield.

Interestingly Walsall topped the League One table for the most player transactions (ins and outs) for the period - 42.

Purely speculating and based on no fact I could only imagine the re-appearance of Sun Tan Man Taylor could have something to do with our current spend? It seems strange after years of non-payments we suddenly start paying agent fees in a period of recruitment which included Caniero, Sonner, Paul Hall and Joao Batista Mawete. Although we have had successes with Mooney, Ricketts and Eddy Sonko.
