Walsall MAD poll results - And the Captain should be!!?

Last updated : 10 January 2006 By Andy Van Hagen
Last week a poll was launch asking who everyone thought should be captain of Walsall. The poll was launched on January 3rd, before the ins and outs of the past few days. Only one vote is allowed per computer.

In a very well recieved poll the results were as follows

Who Should Be Walsall Captain?
Anthony Gerrard33.3%
Matty Fryatt14.5%
Julian Bennett8.7%
Daniel Fox8.7%
Steve Staunton5.8%
A new signing5.8%
Chris Westwood4.3%
Simon Osborn4.3%
Mark Kinsella4.3%
Michael Standing2.9%
Joe Murphy2.9%
Craig Pead1.4%
Andy Oakes1.4%
Other1.4%

Every option recieved votes but the clear winner was number 4 Anthony Gerrard. The player surely must the first name on the team sheet at the moment and has forged a formidable partenership with Ian Roper. The player shows all the passion and leadership of his cousin Steven.

A large proportion of votes were placed for the now departed MAtty Fryatt and Julian Bennett. Matty Fryatt being a Walsall lad and our main goal scoring threat was a interesting choice but it may have kept him at the club for a while longer.

The next placed current Walsall player was Daniel Fox. Built in the mould of Anthony Gerrard Fox is a totally committed player who lets his performances do the talking but also like Gerrard is always ready have his say on the pitch.

Interestingly many people and 5.8% of the vote wanted a new signing to be brought into the club with the intension of taking the arm band straight away. Current captain Chris Westwood only recieved 4.8% of the vote!! This is not surprising as he has lost place in the team for the forseeable future because of the form shown by Roper and Gerrard. Our deputy captain Michael Standing (who is also not a first team regular) only recieved 2.9% of the vote. Says it all really.

Gerrard for captain.
