Walsall draw defending champions

The first round draw of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy has seen Walsall paired up with Swansea City, who are defending the cup. The tie will be played at the Bescot Stadium during the week commencing the 16th October.

Walsall were of course knocked out of the competition last season by Swansea, in a penalty shootout. This season penalty shoot outs will come into play at the end of 90 minutes if the scores are level. This is designed to attract more families to the games, and children under the age of 16 will be offered free tickets if they are accompanied by a paying adult. This is all part of the Football League's 'Fans of the Future' initiative.

The competition winners will pocket a prize of £90,000 and each team who win a round will gain a share of a total prize fund of £350,000.
