Walsall and FAI reach agreement

The path was today cleared for Steve Staunton to take over as the new Republic of Ireland manager.  The FAI flew into Birmingham this morning and have been in talks with Walsall throughout the day to secure the release of Staunton from his contract with ourselves.  Roy Whalley has now stated that an 'amicale settlement' had been reached.  This suggests that Walsall will be recieving a fee for releasing Staunton from his contract.  This will probably be a 'undisclosed fee'!!

Sky Sports News were this afternoon reporting that £60,000 was the figure agreed but Walsall have already released a statement saying that this is 'widely innacurate'.

Staunton will now talk personal terms with the FAI and he looks set to be offered a 4 year deal.  The announcement of his official appointment will be made within the next 7 days.  More news will follow as progress is made.
