The players thought it was a joke

Anthony Gerrard is quoted in tonight's Evening Mail talking about last season's team selections and he takes a swipe at past managers in the process. He is quoted:

"Hopefully we will have a much more settled side this season and that will help alot. It got to be a joke last season when we didn't know what the team would be one week to te next. That did make it difficult. It helps when you have a settled side".

This showed that the players were far from happy about the management last season. The chopping and the changing presumably only hindered our survival bid. In a season where Walsall used close to 50 players this doesn't come as a big surprise.
