The Money CV

Well the manager has been named!! Richard Money!! If like me you will be thinking who is he!!?

Well he is actually a VERY experieced appointment. In his playing days he won a European Cup medal with Liverpool during a playing career which spanned 16 years and 6 teams and international honours. In brief summary he started his career with Scunthorpe United back in 1973 as a 18 year old, he stayed for 4 seasons before joining Fulham for a 2 year spell. In 1979 he left to join Liverpool for £50,000 where he played under the legendry Bob
Paisley. He left in 1981 as Liverpool doubled their money £100,000 when he moved to Luton Town where he spent two years! He picked up a Championship medal with Luton before joining Portsmouth for you guessed it - two years!!

In regards to his coaching career after leaving Portsmouth he rejoined Scunthorpe where he gained his first coaching experienced. He spent a four year spell with the irons where he was resigned by Frank Barlow. In 1987 Frank Barlow was sacked and Money took over the reigns in a caretaker capacity. Mick Buxton got the manager's job and gave Money the position of Youth Development Officer. He departed to join Aston Villa in 1991 joining in a coaching capacity where he worked under Graham Taylor, Josef Venglos and Ron Atkinson with a squad that included Dwight Yorke and Ugo Eghiou. The spell with Villa ended as he was tempted back to Scunthorpe United as first team manager in 1993.

Nottingham Forest was his next port of call but this time back in a coaching role where he worked with Frank Clarke. It was a successful period which saw Nottingham Forest finish third in the Premiership. Three years later he was lured to Manchester City by Frank Clark who made him their head coach in a team that was steared away from relegation. It was a short spell at Maine Road because a year later Coventry City offered him the position of Academy Manager, which three years later saw him promoted to head coach. At Highfield Road he worked with Gordon Strachan.

The five year association with Coventry ended as he was recruited by AIK Stockholm who were looking to replace fellow Englishman Stuart Baxter. At AIK he managed in the Uefa Cup where they were beaten 2-0 over 2 legs by Raffa Benitez's Valencia, who went on to win the cup that season. A year
later he departed and joined another Swedish side - Vasteras where he turned a team struggling at the bottom to a comfortable mid table side. He filled this position before being recruited by Newcastle United Jets for the debut season of Australias new Hyundai League. Last season he guided them the semi final play offs (how the league is decided) where they were beaten 5-4 by Central Coast Mariners over 2 legs.

Along the way he has picked up a Uefa Pro Diploma, Academy Managers Licence, Uefa A licence and a F.A licence. Which i think makes him a very well qualified and experienced appointment!
