Last month Walsall MAD reported that the football League were introducing a 'Real Football Roar' competition. With three games in the opening week and every team playing at home at least once, every club's 'home roar' was measured.

The results? Quite a shock!

According to the Football League the loudest fans in the Championship, League One and League Two are .............. COLCHESTER UNITED!! They recorded a 128.3 decibel welcome when Colchester and Derby walked out onto the pitch at Layer Road.

The Nationwide top ten was as follows:

1 - Colchester United (Coca-Cola Championship)
2 -
Norwich City (Coca-Cola Championship)
3 -
Carlisle United (Coca-Cola League 1)
4 -
Crewe Alexandra (Coca-Cola League 1)
5 -
Bristol Rovers (Coca-Cola League 2)
6 - Southend United (Coca-Cola Championship)
7 -
Rochdale (Coca-Cola League 2)
8 -
Southampton (Coca-Cola Championship)
9 -
Stockport County (Coca-Cola League 2)
10 -
Plymouth Argyle (Coca-Cola Championship)

So although Walsall did not come anywhere near the awards, look at who came second in League Two category - Rochdale! The game they had recorded was against ourselves. Now lets think about this. The attendance that day was 3,218. Their fans were unevenly spread across the whole ground and as a result were very quiet. Walsall however contributed 987 to that number and were all in one half of a single stand and were VERY loud. So should it read

Top 5 Coca-Cola League 2 results

1. Bristol Rovers
2. Walsall
3. Stockport County

I think we have a call to claim the title - unofficial 2nd loudest fans in League Two???

What do you think? Why not discuss this on the Walsall MAD messageboard?
