The Buck gets Butler!?

Last updated : 15 October 2007 By Andy Van Hagen
BBC Humberside are reporting Grimsby Town have agreed a deal to sign Martin Butler.

They state Butler will join Grimsby on loan until January and will then sign a deal taking him up to the end of the 2009 season, therefore giving him the extra year he tried to secure from Walsall.

Walsall placed Butler on the transfer list after Butler's representitives tried to open contract extention talks after just entering the second year of his two-season deal. In August Butler rejected the chance to join Peterborough, he said it was because a new Walsall contract was forthcoming. It wasn't and he then said he would never play for Jeff Bonser again.

Butler and Walsall's accounts of the situation are vastly different, but now we have put the dispute behind us and we have a experienced striker's wage to re-invest!

* Since the BBC article, Grimsby have reponded by saying Butler has been in talks with the club but he has now returned to Walsall to speak with the management. He will contact Grimsby on Tuesday morning.
