Tamworth challenge Nottingham Forest for Merson signiture.

Nationwide Condference side Tamworth have made an approach to sign Paul Merson. It is an ambitious move by the club and they face tough competition from Nottingham Forest for his signiture.

The trump card that could play in Tamworths favour however is that Paul Merson is very good friends with Taworth manager Mark Cooper. The other advantage in Tamworth's favour is a geographical one. Tamworth is the closest football club to Mersons house.

"With all due respect to Tamworth, there will be bigger clubs wanting to sign Paul," said Cooper.

"I have told him if he wants to come and have a game to get fit, there will be no pressure on him.

"Or if he wants to come and have a look on Saturday he can. He is considering it but I am not too hopeful."

Merson is two weeks away from fitness in his words so he will have time to weigh up pro's and cons of each move open to him.

It is unlikely that Merson would choose Tamworth over Nottingham Forest. But then again it was unlikely he would join us when he left Portsmouth!!
