Walsall's long winning run came to an end tonight as we were held at conference side Tamworth. A side consisting mainly of kids and trialists fought out an even game.

Jonny Harkness got the Walsall goal after 21 mins with a header. The goal although must be put down to bad defending was well taken. Harkness who played as left centre back had a good game along side Scott Dann. Sean Platt was right back had many good link ups with Merson down the right and while dispite torment from the Tamworth crowd in the first half Lee Vaughan did little wrong.

Tamworth hit back on 45 mins from a free kick to the back post which was guided into the six yard box by Julian Allsop and duely met by the huge No.5 Matt Redmile. This is a move straight from the training pitch and one that will no doubt be repeated many a time during the course of the coming season.

Walsall trialist Alex Smith played number 11, he had a decent first half but disappeared out of the game completely in the second half and on this performance i doubt will be given another run out.

In the second half a great ball saw Taiwo Atieno put through but ended clashing with the keeper heavily afther Tai headed it down. Should of been a penalty due to the contact but as it was Tamworth were given the ball from the re-start. Both Tai and keeper Alex Bacherini must be commended on their bravery and commitment, Bacherini went off soon after as a result of his injury.

The final half an hour was played out and so it ended Tamworth 1 Walsall 1. A decent performance from a young team guided by the experience of Manager Merson and coach kinsella.

Now for Coventry tommorow night down the Bescot.
