Swindon Town midfielder puts club before country

Last updated : 04 April 2006 By Andy Van Hagen
Tricky Swindon Town winger Ricky Shakes has decided stay and help Swindon's League One survival bid, rather play two matches for Trinidad & Tobago Under-21s in the Caribbean.

The 21-year-old made his senior debut for Trinidad in a friendly against Iceland at Loftus road in February. He told the Western Daily Press "It's important for me to stick around. As it's only an Under-21 game and considering the position we are in, I think it's best for me to stay."

This season the winger really impressed in Swindon's home victory over Walsall. He has made 23 starts and 11 substitute appearances this season building on the 5 starts and 6 substitute appearances in the previous two seasons for 3 other clubs. He was a product of the Bolton Wanderers youth system.
