Swansea City enter race for Walsall Target

Paul Merson upped his interest in Chippenham Town striker James Constable at a time where League One leaders Swansea City have entered the race for the 20 year old striker. Merson who watched Constable play in Chippenhams 1-0 defeat to Worcester in the FA Cup replay, spoke with the lads father after the game to discuss personal terms.

Swansea have entered the running to sign the striker as they look too add to their striking position to consolidate their position at the top of the league. Swansea have the advantage of a brand new 20,000 stadium and the gate recipts that go with nearly filling it. They also offer the prospect of playing along side Lee Trundle - League Ones leading goalscorer with 15 goals.

Other sides have shown an interest in Constable inluding Bristol City, Swindon Town and Bristol Rovers, while Rushden and Diamonds offered him a contract only for it to be turned down.

Merson has stated that he believes the 20 year old will give consistant battling performances as he will endevour to make the most of his chance in league football when it arrives.
