Steve Thompson on visit to Walsall

Ahead of Notts County's visit to Walsall, manager Steve Thompson has been talking to his club's official website www.nottscountyfc.co.uk. He said:

"I've never been one to shirk away from anything and to be honest you have to play everyone sooner or later, should it be Walsall, Wycombe, Lincoln or anyone who it is who are doing well.

Richard Money has done a great job at Walsall, and he has carried on the good work there. He has inherited some good players, but nonetheless he is doing a very good job. Up until the other night when they lost to Macclesfield they've had something of a proud home record, and we have had them watched on a number of occasions.

We've had some tough games away this season and this one is no different. Hopefully there will be a big crowd there, and it should make for a good atmosphere for the players. It will give us an indication of where we are as well. They have lost once in the League, and we have only suffered three so it will be interesting.

They could respond like a wounded animal after the defeat in midweek against Macclesfield, and sometimes the wounded animals are worse than a fit animal. No doubt Richard will have shook them up and told them if they take the foot off the gas that is what will happen.

I think the danger is up the front from Walsall. I like Sam and Butler, and I've always been an admirer of Butler from back in his Cambridge days and he certainly knows where the net is."

We must go there with respect, but not with fear. We got back on track with a good win last week, and I wouldn't class it as a wobble. Eight games without a win is a wobble to me, and we haven't been playing badly. It was imperative to win last week and it was a very big three points. Wrexham played some very good football and they were a big threat. They played attacking football and gave us a tough game and to be fair it could have gone either way, but in the end I felt we got what we deserved which was three points"
