Bookmakers Ladbrookes have now stopped taking bets on Terry Venables becoming the next manager of  Republic of Ireland.  However Terry Venables today stated that at present he has not applied for the job and has not recieved any contact from the FAI.  Ladbrookes had stated they have closed the book on bets because of the volume of large bets they have recieved on his appointment, therefore suggesting its a done deal.

Walsall's Steve Staunton had been the previous favourite after big names George Burley, David O'Leary, Martin O'neil and Alex Ferguson stated they werent interested in the job.

Speculation in the weekends press said that Steve Staunton may be employed as Terry's assistant as the Irish are keen to groom him for a future management role.  Steve Staunton is still a huge name in Ireland after winning a record 102 caps for them.  However his lack of managerial experience seems to of ruled him out of the top position this time.
