Staunton names his first Ireland squad

Steve Staunton has named his first squad since leaving Walsall to take the Republic of Ireland managers job.

The squad to face Sweden on March 1st is as follows :

Staunton has included 5 un-capped players in the squad, some of which are included under the grand parent rule that allows players to represent their grand parents country.

He has gone for a squad with a blend of youth and experience as he approaches his first friendly in charge of the national squad. His next big decision is to name a new captain because Kenny Cunningham has announced his retirement from International football.
