Spanish midfielder suffers set-back

Walsall maintained their impressive start to the season with another 3-points against Preston North End on Tuesday but the game left Pedro Matias facing a spell on the treatment table with a possible broken toe.

Spanish midfielder Matias has worked his way back into Colin Lee's first-team plans in recent games but limped-off injured during the first-half of yesterday's game which Saddlers won thanks to 2 second-half goals.

Matias is the second Reserve Team player to suffer an injury set-back after goalkeeper Aaron Kerr fractured his wrist last week and Kerr is expected to be out of action for at least 2 months. Youth team goalkeeper Dean Coleman took his place in the side yesterday and kept a clean-sheet.

Promising youngsters Mark Wright and Kris Taylor kept Saddlers at the top of the Pontin's Reserve League. Both goals were supplied by Zigor Aranalde and once again Matt Carbon played the full-90 minutes in defence.

Walsall: Coleman; Wright, Caines, Carbon, Aranalde; Bazeley (Smith), Oakes, Kris Taylor, Matias (Bennett); Corica (Atieno), Fryatt.
Subs not used: Daryl Taylor, Jameson.
