Scunthorpe target Gerrard having Cardiff medical

Last updated : 02 July 2009 By Andy Van Hagen
The BBC are reporting centre back Anthony Gerrard is this afternoon having a medical at Cardiff City. This comes after Walsall revealed earlier in the day they turned down a £200,000 bid from Scunthorpe United.

It now looks like Walsall were on a good PR this morning showing they have not accepted the first offer for a player's services, something the board have often been accused of.

The BBC have not stated a fee but it will obviously be higher than the aforementioned figure.

Gerrard was signed by Paul Merson on loan in March 2005 and he instantly made an impression, starring with Walsall turned their relegation form into 5 wins out of 5. Later that summer he joined on a free transfer and has not looked back since.

It was always a matter of time before Championship clubs came knocking for a player who has won 'Player of the Season' awards at Bescot, it was only in January Walsall turned down an offer from Southampton.

The BBC state he has agreed personal terms so it looks like his signing could be announced tomorrow. This would leave Chris Hutchings and Martin O'Connor a massive pre-season hole to fill, but after 182 appearances in just over 4 years he will leave with everyone's well wishes.
