Santalad's Away Day Preview - Tranmere

So we head for Tranmere on Sunday instead of church
though I wish someone would say a prayer for a Walsall
win to end this difficult year.

The football ground on Merseyside is situated in Prenton,
a region of Birkenhead.Tranmere itself is a small town in
another region of of Birkenhead.

Ex-Saddlers favourite David Kelly played for Rovers and
later returned as assistant manager for a while. My only
visit to Prenton Park was in the 1989-90 season when a
Stuart Rimmer penalty couldn't prevent us from going
down 1-2 at a time when in that dreadful season saw
this deafeat as our sixth in seven games.Depressing
period.

Away fans have been housed in the Cowshed Stand since
2000 which has riled the home fans somewhat who used
to love that end which has good accoustics for chanting.
Again away tickets are only available on the day of the
game.Tranmere in recent seasons have only done tickets
in advance for the likes of Leeds and Nottingham Forest
with no discounts for early purchases. The other three
sides of the grounds were rebuilt over a nine month
period in 1995.

Luckily there are two pubs within fifty yards of the ground.
One is aptly called the Prenton Park and the other is
The Clipper.Away fans are welcome at both- I shall have
to call in both then.

So far this season Rovers have chalked up seven wins
on home soil with three defeats and just the one draw
as they strive for a play-off spot.

Manager Ronnie Moore now has his son Ian playing for
him again and the 32-year old needs to be watched.
I'm quite looking forward to seeing Eddy Sonko perform
and he has chipped in with a few goals since his move
from Walsall. He has had a mixed reception since his
move.Seems inconsistency has been his downfall.
Come on then Saddlers-finish 2008 on a positive note.
