Sadlad's Scunthorpe Preview

Last updated : 02 March 2009 By Andy Van Hagen
Tuesday night's tough encounter at Glanford Park sees the first of two away games this week that will have a big say in if we have any outside chance of making the play offs. Both our hosts and Southend are in good positions in the league so it will be a big ask to get maximum points from these games.

Walsall however go to Scunthorpe on the back of three successive
2-0 wins.Although you get the feeling there's a lot more to work on, Chris Hutchings and Martin O'Connor have made such a difference and following the little away run at Hartlepool, Carlisle and last week at Northampton, we are looking to contain a Scunthorpe side who have only lost three times at home in the league and who have a healthy goals tally of 28 against 18 on home soil.

Glanford Park was the first new football league ground to be built
since the second world war and has a capacity of 9,187.Plans have been submitted to rebuild a stand at one end of the ground that will be three tiered.

Tuesday's game has a 7.30 kick off- A little unusual these days and the
Saddlers come up against ex-player Joe Murphy between the posts and despite making one or two mistakes in goal for The Iron recently, is still a good shot-stopper.Walsall will probably be without key defender Anthony Gerrard and long term crock Steve Roberts.Hopefully Rhys Weston may be back in action. Manny Smith has done a great job since finding himself back
in the team and in the 232 minutes he went on for Weston in the Colchester game Walsall have not conceded a goal.He will be called upon to continue his good recent form.

So come on Walsall, let's have another clean sheet and see
if we can pinch a goal (or two) again.
