Sadlad's away day review - MK Dons

Last updated : 27 April 2009 By Andy Van Hagen
We did it! Not many dared hoped that Walsall would secure all three points at Milton Keynes but we did it thanks to a strike by Jabo Ibhere on 60 mins to send the large contingent of travelling fans wild.

Clayton Ince was recalled back in goal in place of Rene Gilmartin and there was a recall too for new dad Dwayne Mattis. Michael Ricketts missed the game due to an injury picked up in the week. How many games has he missed due to injury and suspension?

First chance of the game went to ex-Saddler Mark Wright shooting wide on 4 minutes. The Saddlers were able to contain the hosts easily enough in the opening period and on 14 minutes O' Hanlan should have done better with a header.Ince made the first of a few important saves after 14 minutes punching away Tore Andre Flo's effort with Wright closing in.

We had to wait till the 27th minute for Walsall's first chance of the
afternoon as Jabo dragged his 25 yarder wide. After 30 minutes O'Hanlan had to go off replaced by Sterling and two minutes later Gerrard fouled Wright on the edge of the box in a dangerous area but Puncheon's free kick was deflected over.

Walsall won a rare corner on 41 mins but Deeney couldn't direct
his header goalwards and just before half time a fustrated Zaaboub went in the book for abusing a linesman. So at half time it was a case of so far so good with Walsall happy to stiffle the home team's play.

There was a booking for Mattis just after half time which looked a bit harsh. Ince was pressed into the action again to collect a 35 yarder from Baldock's curling free kick and on 55 mins saw the Saddlers win a corner but with Jabo heading just over.MK were starting to knock the ball around well but with no real penetration.

Walsall made their first sustitution on 59 mins with Alex Nicholls coming on for Bradley.A minute later Walsall took a suprise lead Jabo was given time and space to riffle home a 20 yarder. It was the visitors first shot on target however the in-form stiker had to go off eight minutes later due to a hamstring injury.Richard Davies came on for Stephen Hughes and the home side tried all they could to get back into the game and it was a bit of a worry when 5 minutes time added on was announced but fair play to Walsall, they hung on to prevent MK from going up automatically, with Peterborough beating
Colchester 1-0 they must settle for a play off spot.

Saddlers were backed by a large and noisey following and it was a
change to hear so much vocal support for the lads.A lot of fun was poked at the home fans too with taunts of 'AFC Wimbledon' and 'You've got no history'. Great stuff!
