Sadlads Away Day Preview - Charlton Athletic

Last updated : 21 August 2009 By Sadlad

After the first two away days to Brighton And Hove Albion and Accrington Stanley's somewhat basic open away-ended grounds it will be good to goto a proper football 'stadium' this Saturday as we head for The Valley, thehome of Charlton Athletic. Opened in 1919, its record attendance was 75,031 v. Aston Villa in the FA Cup back in 1938 however due too an impressive re-build in the 1990's it has a present-day capacity of 27,111.

Away fans are housed in the Jimmy Seed (South) Stand which can hold up to 3,000 away supporters. Tickets for our game are £25 and are available at the ground. These adult-priced tickets will probably be the most expensive for our fans this season yet tickets for children under 18 are a more decent £5. Walsall have been given
541 seats in the South Stand which should be sufficient. There are several pubs near the ground. The Anti Gallagen- recommended by Charlton poster taitr' is opposite the train station and the Rose Of Denmark on Woolwich Road is another.

This season Charlton have got off to a great start in League One following their relegation from the Championship winning all three games. An opening
home game to Wycombe and further successes at Hartlepool and Leyton Orient have propelled the Addicks into second spot in the table. Ex-Saddler Deon Burton, who featured in four games in our colours in 2003, has found the net in two of these games. Walsall will be hoping for a return to winning ways following the haul of just one point from the home games with Southend and Leeds this week but I can only see the possibility of a draw at best. Dwayne Mattis is available again following his suspension.
