Saddlers miss out on trialist

Saul Deeney, on trial this week and who featured in the 4-0 friendly victory over Halesowen Town has signed for League Two rivals Notts County.

Deeney became a free agent when his contract with Burton Albion ran out over the summer.

In last nights Express and Star the player was quoted:

"I have some offers from elsewhere but I'm not looking beyond Walsall at the moment.  Walsall is where I want to be. It's a good club and there would be no better place to get back into League football than here."

Despite those words he signed for Notts County this morning, the club he departed in October 2005 after previous manager Gudjon Thordarson released him. Now under new management the player decided to return to the club he began his career. He will compete with Kevin Pilkington for a starting place.

He told Notts County's official website:

I'm really pleased to be back. There is a new management staff here now and I hope I can help push Notts County back up the league.

"When I came here as a 15-year-old it was a special club to be at, and nothing has changed my mind to believe that.  I saw it pass last year for different reasons but there's no point looking back now, we have to look to the future.

What happened before was because of people who are not here now and everything has changed, and it was a bit sad how things ended up.
I'm here to fight for the number one spot now, and that is why I am so happy to be back.

I had interest from elsewhere, but I always got on so well here and with the Club being so special I wanted to come back."
