Saddlers hoping to keep O'Neil

Saddlers manager Colin Lee has begun talks with Portsmouth about extending the loan of midfielder Gary O'Neil even though the England Under-20 international's current deal does not expire until the end of the month.

Portsmouth allowed O'Neil to move to Bescot Stadium a fortnight ago and he will be available for the forthcoming away games against Watford, Sunderland and Reading and the home game against Wigan Athletic.

Saddlers hope to keep O'Neil at Bescot Stadium for at least another month but no decision is expected to be reached before next week.

Lee told Saddlers.co.uk: "I've spoken to Harry already but it's too early yet for them to give me a decision. Harry has said that providing they don't pick up two or three injuries there's no reason why we can't extend Gary's loan."
