Saddlers draw local rivals in FA Cup First Round

Walsall were today handed a plum FA Cup Round One tie, as they were drawn at home to local rivals Shrewsbury Town.

The all-Midlands clash looks set to be one of the ties of the round, and Shrews boss Gary Peters will be looking to overcome the previous encounter between the two at the Banks' Stadium, a 1-0 win to the Saddlers on Boxing Day last December, Mark Wright bagging the only goal of a closely contested derby.

Other notable local highlights from the first round draw include Chasetown being rewarded for their 2-1 victory over Nuneaton Borough with an away tie against Team Bath whilst Kidderminster Harriers face a tricky away trip to Ware. Stafford Rangers' future in this years competition is still undecided, after their draw with Cambridge United this afternoon ensured a replay at the Abbey Stadium. The winners of Crawley Town vs Aldershot await the victors.

Accrington Stanley have been drawn at home to the recent receivers of a Saddlers drubbing, Huddersfield Town, and someone should warn Leeds United fans in advance of their away tie at Hereford United, as the queues to get inside the ground will probably be 2,000 deep.

The ties are due to be played on the weekend of Saturday 10th November 2007.
