Reserves impress again

Walsall notched-up another win in the Reserve League Premier Division after defeating Sheffield United thanks to a goal from Nick Smith. The result means they maintain their position at the top of the table.

During the opening period both sides struggled to make chances. On-loan goalkeeper Shaun Allaway had to make some good saves and at the other end Mark Wright and Matt Fryatt had some half-chances.

The first-half ended all-square at 0-0. Saddlers threatend to take the lead just after the half-time break but Fryatt shot wide whilst Sheffield United almost went ahead through Parkinson's deflected effort.

Walsall won the game just before the hour mark when Nick Smith's shot beat the visiting goalkeeper and Bishop could have added a second when he rounded the goalkeeper but his effort was cleared off the line.

Walsall: Allaway; Willetts, Caines, Bennett, Wright; K. Taylor, Oakes (Jameson), Smith, D. Taylor; Bishop (Atieno), Fryatt.
Subs not used: Lloyd, Harkness, Dann.
