Race against time

Friday's transfer deadline is fast approaching with Kevan Broadhurst eager to bring in a couple of players to boost his squad. Our new manager has made no secret of his desire to bring in a front man and it wouldnt be a surprise if he is also looking at full back cover.

There are restrictions we have to abide by and one of these is that only a maximum of 5 loan players are allowed in a matchday squad. With Walsall already having 6 loan players at the club because of Paul Mersons January Revolution the problem is obvious for us all to see. Speaking to the Express and Star last night Kevan added 'We are only now allowed to bring in loan players and to add two more obviously brings it's own headaches'. This could be solved by letting one or two loanees return to their parent clubs, but this would could create new selection problems.

Another restriction is that Walsall (or any other club for that matter) cannot sign a player who has been cut from another teams roster since the January transfer window closed. This hampers the search, Broadhurst again said in the Express and star 'There are players I know about who are available, but they have had contracts cancelled since the window closed and they cannot have another club now until the next window opens'.

After tonights match with Yeovil expect an arrival but also expect a departure or two.
