Walsall a club that has always lived within their means under Bonser's stewardship, today reported a loss of £727,000. This is a second succesive substancial loss, with last year us reporting a loss of £904,000. Although we have reduced the loss we still have a long way to go - to break even for the year NEVER MIND to make up the deficit. Of course if Walsall had managed to of won a coulple of cup matches last season this would have been dramatically reduced. However we didn't and in 2 years Walsall have lost £1,627,000. For a club our size this is a terrific amount. The relegation from the Championship did not help and im sure the loss of ITV digital money will be mentioned.
Ways of recouping this money is
a) Selling Matty Fryatt and possibly another young player with all of the money going to the bank.
b) A good cup run of at least the fourth round of the FA Cup this season
c) Winning the play offs!!
d) Fans bringing along a friend to every couple of matches.
Or a mix of the above.
Quite simply we cannot afford another loss of this size next year. With the Hotel currently being built and the Stadium Suite now in operation, Walsall have set themselves a great platform to help them out of this financial mess.
The playing budget i suspect has been reduced over the last 12 months with Emblen, Bazeley, Paston, Murphy and Aranalde of whom all were big earners now departed. We have loaned out numerous squad players, whose wages would amount to an experienced player. These savings im sure will help but new players like Smith, Westwood, Fox and Gerrard im sure will take up some of this money.
Over the next 12 months we really have to make an effort to help our club out of this mess. A loss of around £14,000 a week is putting us in danger of real financial trouble. I urge every Saddler to bring a friend who doesn't usually watch Walsall down to Bescot. A Saddler, a blue nose, a Villan, A baggie, or even a dingle ... It doesn't matter - just get their entrance fee in our coffers!!!!
