Picken ready to be picked!

After our 2-0 pre-season defeat at home against Birmingham City, Walsall manager Richard Money revealed Allan Picken was nearing full fitness.

The New Zealand born defender spent the week at Lilleshall and has now been given the go-ahead to take part in our games next week.

Last season Picken was restricted to just 1 start and 1 substitute appearance. He arrived at the club on the recovery trail after having knee surgery. He was rushed into first team action in the season opener at Rochdale because Chris Westwood was serving suspension following his sending off in April 06's 3-1 relegation dooming defeat to Huddersfield Town. After putting in a solid performance Picken suffered a reaction and was on the sidelines again.

He made another brief comeback a month later, but after coming off the bench against Macclesfield we saw no more from him. He is now back having had corrective surgery which removed a 'foreign body' from his leg.

The club are stressing he will not be rushed back this time round so don't expect to see him starting against Carlisle on August 11th but do expect to see him breaking into the first team soon!
