Darlington manager Dave Penney was left pleased with his side's performance against second in the table Walsall. He admitted his disappointment to his club's official website www.darlington-fc.co.uk that the Quakers didn't get all three points. The hosts turned in a good home performance but they could not find the back of the net in an entertaining goalless draw at the Arena.

"It was a good performance. The only thing lacking was the cutting edge. Like I said in the build up to this game the better teams like to come out, try to play football and they certainly did that. It made for a better spectacle and a better game and we played better for it. We are pleased with the performance but disappointed we didn't get three points.

Lee Jones was actually injured in the last home game. He hurt his groin and really he shouldn't have played at Torquay but he got through it but it was too painful for him today. Luckily it gave Sam Russell seven days to get fit and make his thigh okay. To be honest I don't think he had a great deal to do. That was the main reason Sam came in," said the Darlo boss.

We looked at the subs bench and thought 'how can we improve it?' We thought the front two were excellent, the wide men were getting a bit of joy and Keltie was running through the middle. There wasn't really much we could do to change it. Sometimes if you change it you make it worse. We did feel that there was a goal in them but unfortunately it just didn't drop for them. A couple of the players have said on another day you can play worse than that and win. That's just the way it goes."

The players are disappointed because that is a team who is second in the table. They've been flying all season and they were top for a long time. The performance we put in against them and the way we played against them bodes well for the future. They certainly didn't seem better than us on today's performance."
