| Oldham's game with Nottingham Forest was close to being abandoned after vandals had sabotaged one of the floodlights. The Latics did not know of the damage until fifteen minutes before the kick-off when only three of the floodlight pylons powered up correctly. They then found that the electrical current to the floodlight tower had been cut leaving it impossible to be repaired. Both clubs discussed the situation with match officials and it was eventually decided that the game would be played using only three floodlight towers along with the lighting on the roof of the Main Stand. The referee said after the game he had received not one complaint from any of the players, had he, then he would have had to consider calling the game off. The side of the ground was considerably darker and the club now have a race against time to get the lights fixed for the visit of Walsall on Saturday. One of the reasons Oldham think the chords may have been cut was for the copper content but it is estimated only to be £5 worth taken. It will cost the club many zero's on top of that to ensure fixtures can resume again. |
