Non-League managers application went unreplied

Daz Hale on Radio WM tonight reported that he spoke to a very successful non-league manager today who said he applied for the managers position at Walsall after Paul Merson departed in February. He also said he recieved no contact from the club at all, not even a rejection letter!

The managers name remained undisclosed (in true Walsall style) but the question remains who was it?

The selection policy when recruiting Paul Merson's replacement was that the club would not reply to any application from a manager who was currently in employment.

The first name that springs to mind is Nigel Clough from Burton Albion. Was he ready to make the step up to League football? Did we reject it without any consideration?

The other question is how many managers have we discouraged from applying this time round because of their poor treament back in February?
