Nicholls breaks leg

Last updated : 28 February 2006 By Andy Van Hagen
While the Walsall youth team were celebrating reaching the Midland Youth Cup final last night, 18 year old striker Alex Nicholls was in hospital awaiting results from an x-ray.

The results showed that Alex has broken his leg and that means the promising striker will miss the rest of Walsalls relegation battle.

The striker was expected to have a part to play in the remainder of the season. Walsall's options up front are limited at the moment and Nicholls is the only out and out striker on the books with a genuine injection of pace.

This season the striker has made his break through to the first team squad

Nicholls sustained the break from a challenge just before half time in the Midland cup game.

Walsall manager Kevan Broadhurst may now consider bringing in a striker on loan to replace Nicholls a prority.  Already short of options this might be the catalyst to pursue a target sooner rather than later.

We wish Alex a speedy recovery.
