Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Wolves and Sheffield clubs look at Ex-Saddler

Sky News are reporting that Newcastle United, Middlesbrough, Wolves, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday are all looking at Carlisle United striker Karl Hawley. The striker left Walsall back in August 2004 and has consistently put the ball in the back of the net during his career, whether it be for the reserves, Raith Rovers or Carlisle. The striker has made 100 starts and has scored 42 goals. That record speaks for itself.

The striker is now 24 years old and the time might be right for him to move on. Wolves have striker Kenny Miller attracting clubs interest and might see Hawley as a ideal replacement. Karl has the goal scoring record that suggests he might replace the goal scoring to replace Miller.

The concern with him joining either Newcastle or Middlesbrough is that he would probably only be a bit part player. The Sheffield clubs would also offer him a clearer route to the first team.

It is unclear whether Carlisle would sell if an offer came in, but if genuine Championship or Premiership interest was backed up by a bid they might let the player move on reluctantly.
