New Zealand Knights Round Up

Last updated : 11 October 2005 By Andy Van Hagen
With New Zealand Knights having so many Ex-Saddlers in their squad i have been watching from a far with great interest.  Heres a little summary of the early stages of the season over in NZ.

The Knights started the season well and despite losing the first two games their preformances gained good reveiws and they certainly didn't look like the whipping boys that they were touted as beforehand.   Two late goals gave pre-season favourites FC Sydney, who incidently have Steve Corica and David Zdrilic in their ranks a 3-1 victory.  The Knights took the positives out of the game and went on to get their first win in the third game of the season against Central Coast Mariners. The Knights having a comfortable 2-0 scoreline to show for their efforts.  Since then however they have lost four on the bounce.

Club captain Danny Hay is currently out injured.  For the Knights previous game the arm band was given to another Ex-Saddler Neil Emblen.  Unfortunately he limped off in the 15th min.  Emblems injury is expected to keep him out between 4-8 weeks.  One thing that must be said what good shape neil looks to be in.  The picture on http://www.knightsfc.com/default.aspx?s=newsdisplay&id=1891&pageid=432
is great credit to the player and the fitness coaches at the Knights.  Maybe Merson should have a look at this and realise Paul Smith could participate in a similar schedule to Neils, and Roper too!!!?  Hopefully Neil will return soon.  Another Ex-Saddler Darren Bazeley has been singled out for praise from Knights commentators.
