New Zealand Knights - Bazeley and Emblen Season Round up

Last updated : 06 February 2006 By Andy Van Hagen
Darren Bazeley and Neil Emblens season with the New Zealand Knighs came to a dissapointing conclusion over the weekend. The New Zealand Knights never really competed this season despite a showing a competitive start they were unable to convert this into registering points on the board. Three points in the first three games was a promising start to the new league.

Unfortunately after registering their first win of the season away at Central Coast Mariners in the third game of the season, the Knights then failed to pick up another win. A 11 match losing streak followed the win.

The Knights have struggled because of a lack of funding. At the start of the season they started with three ex-Saddlers in the ranks. New Zealander Danny Hay was their captain until he left during the second half of the season. Neil Enblem missed a large chunk of the season through injury.

Darren Bazeley managed to play every minute of every game and has been one of the star performers in a dismal season.

In the close season the Knights will be looking to build a more competitive squad to compete with the bigger Australian teams. When you think Sydney have Dwight Yorke in the team this shows the gap in funding between the teams!! Sydney also have Ex-Saddlers Corica and Zdrillic.
