New Striker in time for Colchester? Targets...

The Evening Mail are carrying a story that Paul Merson is closing in on a long term transfer target. The target is a striker whom Merson felt we could not attract because of the financial package the player would be asking for. After speaking with the player, Merson is very optomistic of sealing his signiture. It has been stressed that we are fighting with other clubs to complete the transfer but it sounds like this will not be a loan deal but a longer term signing.
So who is this target? The Evening Mail rejects the notion that we might be trying to attract Julian Joachim. But is this a hint and a bluff? Julian Joachim is not enjoying the best of times at home town club Boston United. He arrived with great expectation and has scored 10 goals in 28 goals for the club.
But rumours on Boston sites link him with moves away from the club. After investing in a all ex-Premiership strike partnership of Julian Joachim, Noel Whelan and Jason Lee the former two have both left the club this week. Could they be thinking that their ambitious moves have not payed off? As too much of the wage budget has been spent on the strikers and not enough on the rest of the team? Maybe the budgeted on getting promotion and are now having second thoughts? Boston are currently 14th in League Two but after the summer investment fans and the board must surely have been expecting promotion? We know what JJ can do.
Another rumoured potential target is ex-striker Martin Butler. Currently at Rotherham he is looking for a move back to the Midlands.
The striker started his career at Walsall but was always baracked by the boo boys, something that he still endures when we play against him. The striker started his Rotherham career with 15 goals in his first season and he has a bags of experience at this level. He is a 1 goal in 3.5 games striker but on his day will always cause trouble.
The final target is from Chester City. Walsall are rumoured to be watching Ryan Lowe. The striker has spent his career to date in the lower leagues but looks like he could instantly make the step up to League One.

This season he has managed 16 goals in 30 starts. He is certainly a player that puts himself about having picked up 9 yellow cards and 2 reds!! He is 5 foot 11 (same as Butler). The stumbling block here is Chester want a three figure fee. This might rule him out!!!
We shall await the news of the signing. I know who i would like!!
