New Poll on Walsall MAD - Striking options

Last updated : 17 March 2006 By Andy Van Hagen
There has been pleanty of talk about Walsall signing another striker since the arrival of Kevan Broadhurst as manager. Quite rightly he has identified what we all know - this team lacks goals. A look at our leading scorers chart this season shows disturbing stats :

PlayerAppGls
M Fryatt2714
J Leitao25+37
J Constable4+94
K James10+23
I Demontagnac16+52
S Osborn26+42

It is instantly noticable that our leading two scorers are no longer with us at the club. Twenty one goals dissappeared during the transfer window.

James Constable is the leading scorer still at the club with erm 4 goals. Not exactly a bad tally from 4 starts and 9 substitute appearances, but the striker is still a raw talent having been signed from Chippenham Town back in November.

Next up in the list is Kevin James who is on loan from Nottingham Forest. Ten starts and twice coming off the bench he has seen a contribution of 3 goals. Again not a terrible tally but, does Broadhurst see him as a striker or a winger? Early indications seem that he will be used as a winger under the new gaffer.

There are a few players on 2 goals - Ishmel Demontagnac and Simon Osborn. Ishmel has not heaily featured of late and has not scored since November and both Simon Osborn's goals came in the same game (Scunthorpe away).

So our Striking options -

James Constable - 4 goals from 4 starts (9 sub)
Mads Timm - 1 goal from 7 starts
Andrew Barrowman - 1 goal 6 from 6 starts
Kevin James - 3 goals from 10 starts and (2 sub)
Paul Devlin - 1 goal from 3 starts
Scott Fitzgerald - 0 goals from 1 start and (2 sub)
Taiwo Ateino - 0 goals from 1 start and (1 sub)

Its obvious we lack a natural goal scorer but the level of player turnover this
season under the previous management might mean that the resources just aren't there to bring in the goalscorer we blatantly need and we might have to go without to the summer?

But the question i ask is :
Will Walsall sign another striker before the end of this season?
1)YES
2)NO
3)DEPENDS ON INJURIES
