Merson's playing career over?

Last night Paul Merson was stretchered off with a groin problem. He went down while defending in our box and it was obvious straight away that he was in a lot of pain. He faces a scan this week to see if he has either strained or ruptured the muscle. I hope it is just a strain and that we will see him back in 4-6 weeks. A player of his pedigree does not deserve to have his playing days stopped in that way, but it has happened to great players in the past and will happen in the future again too. Shockingly its the first strained muscle Merson has ever had in his career.

What was ironic is last night Merson did more defending than i have ever seen in his Walsall Career! He nearly gave a penalty in the first half but luckily the Brentford player stayed on his feet where many would of gone down.

Last night Paul had his best game for a while and early in the first half went close with a superb free kick. One that had the Purple stand thinking it had gone in - hence the celebrations!! Only for us to realise it was just wide.

Merson joins Andy Oakes, Daryl Taylor and Darren Wrack on the treatment table.
