Merson to return as player!!!!!!!!!!?

Tonight the BBC Midland news has fuelled rumours of a Paul Merson return to Walsall!!!

In a interview with both Paul Merson and Jeff Bonser the subject of a playing return was brought up by the reporter. It was never admitted but equally it was not denied either!!

The interview's focus was the Virtual Soccer Academy. When asked about a possible playing return Merson said 'I dont know about that' but Jeffs response fuels speculation "A fit Paul Merson is a great player. He'll get lots of offers from clubs at a higher level". This shows what a high regard Jeff still has for Merson's playing ability.

The Merson and Bonser comments could be taken one of two ways - not ruling the option out or being polite and respectful to the other person.  We will soon see!

Merson brought a profile to the club that has never been seen before and at this level Merson can still do a job, but only under the right circumstances in a match.

It must now be considered that the long delay in naming new manager is because the chosen manager (Chris Nicholl?) has turned down the position because Bonser has indicated an interest in resiging Merson!?

Would a in coming manager want the old manager still at the club? You would guess not, if you make a break it should be a clean one, otherwise can you move on? This is only speculation but is there something in it?

Jeff loves Merson, Merson likes Walsall but the fans want to move on! The greatest signing in Walsall history has always created a splitt between Walsall fans. Since his departure a reunion of fans has been witnessed but the re-signing of Merson would again see a divide.

Merson is appearing on Soccer AM this morning so it will be interesting to hear his comments. He has looked very relaxed since his departure now that the pressure is off. If he was to return we would be seeing a player playing for the team once more rather than to save his managerial career. Also a player that would be chosen on merit rather than personal desire.
